Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor is on Mount Desert Island a little more than half way up the coast of Maine. It's called Bar Harbor because at low tide there is a sand bar you can walk across out to a little island. We didn't walk out to the island (timing was bad and the weather was wet, wet, wet), but we did see the sand bar. Just north of Bar Harbor is a high speed ferry that takes people to Nova Scotia. Yep, we could stand on the balcony of our hotel room and look across the water to Canada. See below? That is Canada. Way over there...in the distance...

Anyway, Bar Harbor was a very cool town. Main street has a very Jackson Hole-Park City-Moab-ish feel to it. Full of shopping and food. Unfortunately the restaurant we chose to dine at was AWFUL, but the ice cream shop up the street more than made up for it.

Mount Desert Island is also the home to Acadia National Park. Our agenda allowed for us to only spend one day at the National Park, and sadly it rained the entire day (sometimes really, really hard!), but we did make the most of our trip and drove everywhere we could. We even drove up to the top of Cadillac Mountain where the view is supposed to be amazing - one of the photos below reveals what our view was...clouds. C'est la vie!
