Manchester, Vermont

Last week we took a vacation to New England. It's someplace I've always wanted to visit and the airfare was right (thank you poor economy), so we took advantage of it. After a slightly turbulent flight into Portland, Maine, our first stop was Manchester, VT. It's about a 4 hour drive from Portland to Manchester...the way we drove. We elected to skip the main roads and pass through some of the smaller towns to view some old covered bridges and homes.

Manchester is a very lovely town with a unique mix of historic, quaint buildings, old cemetaries, and plenty of modern shopping for vacationers for New York (definitely not in my price range!). We were conveniently 1 week ahead of the start of tourist season, so we had the town (nearly) to ourselves.

The hotel we stayed in ironically enough was owned by a gentleman who had been born in Boise, Idaho, grew up in Washington State, and who's grandfather had been born in Farmington, UT. He was very familiar with Utah, Lagoon, and, of course, how Utah has the "Greatest Snow on Earth," especially when compared to Vermont's. =) Small world!
